The San Francisco 49ers reached an agreement on a one-year contract with veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs, his agent announced Monday.

It's a fully guaranteed deal worth $2.25 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The pact reportedly also includes $750K in incentives.

A veteran NFL journeyman, Dobbs began the 2023 season with the Arizona Cardinals but was traded to the Minnesota Vikings midway through the campaign after Kirk Cousins went down with an Achilles injury.

The 29-year-old sparked the Vikings' offense: The team won its first two games with him under center. However, the former fourth-round pick ran out of magic as the season progressed and was ultimately benched by head coach Kevin O'Connell. Dobbs finished the campaign with a 62.8% completion percentage and 13 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions. He also had six touchdowns on the ground while making eight appearances for the Cardinals and five for the Vikings.

Dobbs reacted to joining the 49ers on social media:

In San Francisco, he'll join a quarterback depth chart that's headlined by Brock Purdy. He'll presumably compete with Brandon Allen for a chance to be the reigning NFC champions' QB2.
