Report: Metcalf not present at Seahawks' mandatory minicamp

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is not participating in the first day of mandatory minicamp amid ongoing contract negotiations, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Metcalf, who is eligible for an extension, is continuing his injury rehab in Los Angeles. The Seahawks consider his absence unexcused, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Metcalf is currently working back into form after he underwent foot surgery earlier this year.

Seattle could fine the wideout. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract, which will pay him $3.9 million in 2022, per Over the Cap.

The 2020 Pro Bowler has been the subject of offseason trade speculation since Seattle dealt Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

Metcalf's absence comes as a surprise after he previously participated in some of the club's voluntary organized activities.

Seattle has insisted it will not trade the superstar receiver despite big names such as Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, and A.J. Brown landing lucrative long-term deals this offseason.

Metcalf sounded optimistic that a deal would be worked out last month. "We're gonna get something done. I think I'm gonna be in Seattle for the next coming years," he said in May.

The former second-round pick has posted at least 900 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons in the league. The 24-year-old hauled in 75 receptions for 967 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021.
