The New York Giants are reportedly planning to work out former Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

New York finds itself thin at the running back position after Saquon Barkley suffered a knee injury in their Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears. The Giants fear Barkley's season may be over, though an MRI on Monday will confirm.

The former Falcons rusher would help bolster New York's backfield depth following Barkley's injury. The Giants currently only have running backs Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman on their roster.

Lewis rushed for just 20 yards on 10 carries in the team's Week 2 loss while Gallman remained inactive for the contest.

Freeman has spent the previous six seasons with the Falcons but was released earlier this year. The running back has rushed for 3,972 yards and scored 32 touchdowns over his career.
