Washington Redskins rookie wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden said he tested for COVID-19 prior to the draft but has been fully cleared after self-quarantining.

"During my pre-draft training, I tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24," Gandy-Golden said in a statement obtained by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. "My symptoms thankfully were mild, but I self-quarantined for two weeks and followed all guidelines from health experts. I was fully cleared April 7. I feel 100% now and can't wait to get on the field for the Redskins."

The Redskins selected the 22-year-old in the fourth round out of Liberty.

Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL's chief medical officer, said Tuesday that the league expects to encounter more positive cases in the near future.

The NFL allowed teams to begin reopening facilities Tuesday if given the go-ahead by their respective state governments. But the return of players and coaches to those facilities will be determined by testing, test availability, and reliability.

NFLPA medical director Thom Mayer recently said NFL engineers are testing protective facemasks on helmets for the 2020 season.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton tested positive for the coronavirus in March, while Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen became the first active NFL player to test positive in April. Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller was also infected later that month.
