Fan petition calling for NFL boycott if Kaepernick isn't signed reaches 135K

A movement against the NFL in support of Colin Kaepernick is picking up steam in a hurry.

Less than two weeks after launching, a Change.org petition calling for fans to boycott the league if the free-agent quarterback remains unsigned surpassed the 135,000 mark Thursday.

The initial petition, released in late July, detailed plans for it to be delivered to Roger Goodell and each of the NFL's 32 team owners upon reaching 100,000 signatures.

A response that allowed for that total to be easily topped within just 12 days has now resulted in an amended goal of 1 million. In addition to contacting the top league executives, the group behind the petition now intends to mail the CEOs of numerous prominent NFL sponsors upon reaching that milestone.

Colin Kaepernick is the first athlete in our generation to literally risk his multi-million-dollar athletic career, in order to stand up for the injustices of people of color & police brutality. The NFL Owners have seemed to turn a blind eye to the situation. Let's not leave Kaepernick hanging.

Kaepernick, who's only a few seasons removed from being one of the league's brightest young stars, has been brought in for just one team visit since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March.

Many in the football world, including a number of players who have spoken out to offer their support, believe organizations are blackballing him in response to the pregame national anthem protests he led last season.
