Ray Evernham leaves ESPN to focus more on role at Hendrick Motorsports

Ray Evernham announced today that he has left his broadcasting duties at ESPN to focus more on his work at Hendrick Motorsports, where he’ll work in the competition department.

"Not doing ESPN will allow me to be involved in some of the management and some of the things they're doing at Hendrick Motorsports," Evernham told Sirius XM Radio this morning. "The best way to avoid a conflict of interest is to choose one or the other.

Evernham is best known for being Jeff Gordon’s crew chief, and leading him to 47 Cup wins, and 3 Sprint Cup Championships (1995, 1997 and 1998). While Evernham has worked for a management group dealing with Hendrick Motorsports, he has remained distant until now. He will now delve deeper into his role at HMS, as well as still being involved in the Velocity TV classic car show “AmeriCarna”.

ESPN will be ending their NASCAR coverage at the end of this season. In a statement they had nothing buy kind words to say about Evernham. “"We appreciate the contributions Ray has made to our NASCAR coverage and have enjoyed having him as part of our team. We wish him all the best."
