McCollum: 'I'll be able to shoot when I'm 40'
New Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum isn't worried about Father Time catching up with him.
Following his 45-point performance in an overtime win against the Utah Jazz on Monday night, McCollum told reporters that he expects to continue playing at a high level for years to come. He pointed to his older brother, Errick McCollum (a member of Turkish basketball club Fenerbahce Beko), as inspiration.
"I like to think that my game's gonna age well. It has continued to age well," the 33-year-old McCollum said. "My brother's 37 on the 22nd (of January), he's still one of the best players in the world. He's still competing at a high level and he still takes great care of his body. The game is as easy now at 37 as it was for him when he was 27, and I think the same will be true for me just because of the preparation, the way I play.
"I ain't out here dunking on people, right? It's skill. It's strategy. It's angles. It's footwork. It's a jump shot that never leaves. I'll be able to shoot when I'm 40. So it's not something that I'm really worried about."
Monday marked the second time in the past month that McCollum scored at least 45 points in a game. He put up 50 in the Pelicans' win over the Washington Wizards on Jan. 3, tying his career high.
McCollum is averaging 22.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds through 33 contests this season.
