Report: No deal in place yet for 'Roundball Rock' theme on NBC
The return of "Roundball Rock" to NBC may not be a slam dunk just yet.
NBC Sports has yet to reach a deal to bring back "Roundball Rock" despite announcing in July that John Tesh's legendary theme song would be returning to the network as part of its new 11-year deal with the NBA, according to Alex Sherman of CNBC.
Talks between the two sides are ongoing, but Sherman reports that Tesh has a high asking price and has considered licensing the song to another media company.
"Roundball Rock," which was written and produced by Tesh, was used as the theme for NBA on NBC from 1990-2002. It has since been licensed to Fox Sports for use on some college basketball broadcasts.
Tesh first teased the potential return of "Roundball Rock" in May during an appearance on the "Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz," revealing that he planned to re-record the song with a symphony orchestra in Nashville the following month.
NBC's new deal with the NBA will begin during the 2025-26 season.
