Like Kawhi Leonard, Blue Jays great Joe Carter was faced with the question of whether to stay or go after helping to bring a championship to Toronto in the 1990s.

Carter, who became a free agent after the Blue Jays' first World Series win in 1992, discussed the Finals MVP during a Tuesday appearance on CTV's "Your Morning."

"I hope he makes the right decision," Carter said, "and let me tell you, Kawhi: Toronto's the place to be, baby."

Carter explained the "many similarities" between his and Leonard's situations. Leonard is set to hit free agency June 30, and there has been plenty of talk about him potentially signing with a team in his hometown of Los Angeles instead of returning to the Raptors.

"... When I came here in '91, and then '92 win the World Series and I was a free agent, (I) wanted to go back to Kansas City where I lived at," Carter said. "My wife and family was there. It seemed all great. But I found out that it's not always great to play where you live at.

"And so I had a dream and the Lord showed me that coming back to Toronto was what I needed to do. I came back, so '93, win the World Series again, and now Kawhi is in that same situation."
