SMU coach Sonny Dykes will be the next head coach of TCU, according to ESPN's Ian Fitzsimmons.

The Mustangs offered a package worth up to $4 million to retain Dykes, but TCU was willing to offer significantly more, Fitzsimmons reports.

SMU is expected to name Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee as Dykes' replacement, sources told The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy. Lashlee returns to SMU after serving as OC for the Mustangs in 2018-19.

Dykes has been assembling his staff at TCU for over a week, McMurphy reports.

He's expected to coach the Mustangs' regular-season finale against Tulsa before accepting the new position, sources told 247 Sports' Billy Embody.

Dykes, 52, has led the Mustangs to an 8-3 record in his fifth campaign with the program. He's amassed a 30-17 mark at SMU since his arrival in 2017.

TCU marks Dykes' fourth school after coaching Louisiana Tech (2010-12), Cal (2013-16), and SMU.

The Horned Frogs find their successor to Gary Patterson, who was fired on Oct. 31 after 21 seasons as head coach.
