UConn lose projected lottery pick McNeeley for couple of weeks
UConn will be without projected lottery pick Liam McNeeley for at least a couple of weeks, head coach Dan Hurley announced Saturday, per John Fanta of Fox Sports.
McNeeley sustained a high ankle sprain in the second half of Wednesday's victory over DePaul and exited the contest. The McDonald's All-American landed awkwardly as he attempted to pick off a pass and walked with a noticeable limp as he was assisted off the court.
"Maybe by the end of January," Hurley said of a potential return date, per CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
McNeeley has been a big part of the Huskies' second-ranked offense, averaging 13.6 points, 5.8 boards, and 2.6 assists across 14 appearances. The five-star recruit ranks eighth in the Big East in free-throw attempts (60) and 18th in triples (25).
Sophomore forwards Jayden Ross and Jaylin Stewart are expected to see more minutes with McNeeley sidelined.
UConn enters Sunday's contest against Providence riding a seven-game win streak.
