There may be video of Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game

It's a record that seems impossible to break, 100 points in a single NBA game.

That's what Wilt Chamberlain did back on March 2, 1962, a game made even more famous for the mystery surrounding it, as no video is thought to exist of the game.

Except that there may be video out there, at least according to the coach of the Memphis Tigers, Josh Pastner, who claims his father and grandfather taped the game and believe they have the footage somewhere. Normally a story like this would get chalked up to Big Foot-esque speculation, but this is the coach of a prominent NCAA basketball program, not some everyday jabroni.

Here's Pastner discussing the possibility the video exists on Saturday, via The 700 Level:

"And in fact, my father and his father taped the game reel-to-reel in the second quarter when it was in Hershey, Pennsylvania in the 100-point game. They started when he had like 30-something; they thought it was going to be a special night. They gave it to Wilt — the 100-point game — and Wilt gave it back to my dad and my dad’s dad. He gave it back to them, they boxed it up, and he’s still trying to find it. He’s got all kinds of boxes, and he doesn’t know if he lost it. He’s trying to find the sucker."

Pastner's father was a ball boy for the 76ers, and Pastner alleges that his dad actually tasted soda before Chamberlain would drink it, fearing he would be poisoned.

If the video were ever to be uncovered, it would instantly become one of the great artifacts in the history of sport. This is Indiana Jones kind of stuff for basketball fans.
