Nets agree to multi-year extension with Fernandez
The Brooklyn Nets signed head coach Jordi Fernandez and his staff to multi-year extensions, the team announced Monday.
Nets owner Joe Tsai and general manager Sean Marks worked out the contracts for the coaching staff this week, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
"Jordi is a tremendous leader, who, along with his coaching staff, put his stamp on this franchise from the moment he arrived in Brooklyn," Marks said in a statement obtained by SNY's Ian Begley. "Over his first two seasons, Jordi has built a strong foundation rooted in player development, a competitive spirit, and honest communication, all of which have been embraced throughout our roster."
Brooklyn's front office opted to reward the coaching staff after the team proved competitive amid a rebuild during Fernandez's first two seasons on the sideline.
While the Nets' 46-118 combined record over the past two years leaves much to be desired, the franchise has made strides in developing core players. Under Fernandez's guidance, Michael Porter Jr., Nic Claxton, and Day'Ron Sharpe have each shown notable improvements.
Fernandez joined the Nets after serving as the associate head coach of the Sacramento Kings under Mike Brown. He also previously worked as an assistant on Mike Malone's coaching staff with the Denver Nuggets from 2016-22.
