Spurs waive Sochan, allow him to enter free agency

The San Antonio Spurs released forward Jeremy Sochan, the team announced Wednesday.

Both parties agreed to the move to allow Sochan to become a free agent, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania. Multiple teams are expected to show interest in the fourth-year forward.

San Antonio reportedly worked with Sochan's camp to find a trade for him ahead of Thursday's deadline before agreeing on his release.

Sochan was drafted ninth overall by San Antonio in 2022 but has played sparingly since falling out of Mitch Johnson's rotation in December. The 22-year-old has appeared in seven games in the new year, totaling just 49 minutes in that span.

Sochan served as a full-time starter for the Spurs during his first two seasons, posting 11.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and three assists per game while making 73 starts in his second year. San Antonio moved him to a bench role midway through the 2024-25 campaign, and he hasn't started a game since.

The Baylor product was earning $7.1 million this campaign, though it's unclear if the Spurs retained some of his owed salary as part of the move. He was set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Sochan's averaging career lows this season in points (4.1), rebounds (2.6), and assists (one).
