Report: Giannis starts talks with Bucks about future
Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, have started conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the superstar's future with the franchise, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
The two sides are reportedly discussing whether the two-time MVP's best fit is with the Bucks or another team.
A resolution is expected in the coming weeks, which will determine whether he's available as the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches.
Antetokounmpo bought into the changes to the Bucks' roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. However, the nine-time All-Star reportedly said he'd examine the results from Milwaukee's first 25 or so games before making any decisions about his long-term future.
The Bucks sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 9-13 record, having lost eight of their past nine games. The losing has been frustrating for Antetokounmpo, the front office, and coaches and other players, sources told Charania.
Antetokounmpo reportedly explored external options in the offseason and was open to a trade to the New York Knicks in August. Multiple teams are expected to pursue the 30-year-old if he becomes available.
The Greek forward is eligible to sign a four-year, $275-million max extension with the Bucks as of Oct. 1, 2026. Antetokounmpo can sign the same contract with another team six months after a potential trade.
He's averaging 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists through 16 games this season.
