NBA fines Westbrook $35K for obscene gesture
The NBA fined Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook $35,000 for making an obscene gesture in the fourth quarter of Denver's 145-118 loss to the New York Knicks on Monday, the league announced Friday.
Westbrook hit a corner three with under six minutes left and then gave the Knicks' bench the middle finger.
Westbrook tallied 29 points, three assists, and three rebounds on 9-of-16 shooting from the field in the loss.
The league fined Westbrook $25,000 in 2019 while he was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder after he directed profanity toward a fan during a game against the Utah Jazz in 2019.
The 36-year-old signed a two-year deal with Denver over the offseason that's worth $6.8 million and includes a player option for the second season. He is averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 17 games with the Nuggets.
The Nuggets are 10-7 and sit seventh in the Western Conference. They'll take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night.
