Raptors' Barrett out remainder of preseason due to shoulder injury
Toronto Raptors guard RJ Barrett will miss the rest of the preseason after he suffered a sprained right AC joint Sunday, the team announced Tuesday.
Barrett sustained the injury late in the second quarter of Sunday's contest against the Washington Wizards. He recorded a game-high 17 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists in just 14 minutes.
The Raptors acquired Barrett and Immanuel Quickley from the New York Knicks as part of the OG Anunoby trade last December. The former 2019 third overall selection averaged 21.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 53.3% from the field and 39.2% from three in his 32 games with Toronto.
Barrett was a member of the Canadian national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 24-year-old averaged 19.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in four games with Team Canada.
Rookie guard Ja'Kobe Walter is also out for the preseason with the same injury as Barrett.
Toronto will play its next preseason game Friday against the Wizards. The Raptors begin their regular season Oct. 23 when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers.
