Ewing returns to Knicks as basketball ambassador
Patrick Ewing is returning home to the Big Apple.
The New York Knicks announced Friday that the franchise legend is joining the organization in a new role as a basketball ambassador, assisting in both basketball and business operations.
"As I said the day my No. 33 jersey lifted into the rafters at MSG, I will always be a Knick, and I will always be a New Yorker. I can't wait to get started in this new position and to officially be back with the organization that I love so much," Ewing said in a statement.
"The Garden has always been my home, and I'm looking forward to working with Leon Rose, coach Thibodeau, the team, and everyone else that makes this place so special."
Ewing spent 15 seasons with the organization between 1985-2000 after he was drafted first overall out of Georgetown. He led the Knicks to 13 straight playoffs berths, including a Finals appearance in 1994.
An 11-time All-Star, Ewing averaged 22.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks during his tenure in New York. He made All-NBA first team in 1990, and he earned six All-NBA second-team selections between 1988-1997.
The 62-year-old was most recently the coach at his alma mater, leading the Hoyas to a Big East title in 2021.
