Georgia lands 6-11 ex-NBA prospect as OL recruit
Georgia added to its 2024 recruiting class Monday, as former Overtime Elite basketball player Jahzare Jackson committed to the Bulldogs as an offensive tackle, he told Eli Lederman of ESPN.
Jackson stands 6-foot-11 and weighs 340 pounds, making him one of college football's most physically imposing players.
The 20-year-old picked Georgia over Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, and Arkansas.
"This year, the plan is for me to come in there and buy into their scheme and learn their scheme and also just develop and get better fundamentally," Jackson said. "They want me to come in my first year and be able to play maybe 20-30 snaps for the season. After that, they think I have the potential to come in my second year and be a starter."
Jackson entered the NBA draft at the end of June but went undrafted. He considered G League and international basketball opportunities before pivoting his focus despite the fact he hasn't played football competitively since middle school.
"I'm embracing being able to come back to the sport that started it all for me in my athletic career," Jackson said. "It's been a great experience, and I'm nothing but grateful."
Jackson is the sixth offensive lineman in the school's 2024 recruiting class.
