Anthony Davis' return to New Orleans as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers went about as well as possible for the former Pelican. Davis scored a season-high 41 points in L.A.'s 114-110 win as the boobirds didn't seem to bother him.

"I think coming in and just worrying about what was on the floor and not what the crowd was saying or whatever," Davis said afterward, according to ESPN's Andrew Lopez.

"I did hear something during the national anthem. That was the only time; it was super quiet. Other than that, I didn't really hear much. I actually got some love when I was sitting on the bench from some Pelican fans."

Lakers teammate LeBron James - a veteran of one particularly hostile return - said Wednesday that he'd counseled Davis on dealing with the atmosphere.

"He went through a lot worse from what he told me," Davis said of James' return to Cleveland after joining the Miami Heat in 2010. "I just got boos."

Davis' 41 points were the most ever scored by an NBA player in their first game against a former team. The Lakers also came back from a 16-point third-quarter deficit to win.

"New Orleans fans should probably boo their own team for letting (Davis) get 40 and come back," Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma said. "I don't know what that was. But he was ready for this game. On the way to the arena on the bus he was rapping out loud, and he never really does that, so you could kinda tell that he was ready to play."
