Lakers' Caruso explains his appeal: I look like 'a common person'

In a market famed for its ability to lure star players, there's something to be said about how Los Angeles Lakers fans have rallied behind Alex Caruso, now somewhat of a cult hero.

The balding 6-foot-5 guard who went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2017 has a few ideas about why he's resonated with the Lakers faithful despite being a role player over his first two pro seasons.

"I think it's the way I play - every game I go out there and play as hard as I can, and I think people appreciate that," Caruso told Bleacher Report's Leo Sepkowitz.

"Then it's the fact I look like I could be a common person walking on the street," he added. "They all want to hold onto like, 'Hey, that's one of us out there doing it.' Which is funny because I feel like I'm a normal person. I walk around and I don't feel like I'm (6-foot-5), I don't feel like I'm this guy that plays for the Lakers. But it's the reality of it."

Through 62 appearances, Caruso has averaged 5.9 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game. However, he's also recorded several impressive performances when given extended run, including a 32-point showing against the Los Angeles Clippers on April 5 this year:
