Redick created burner Twitter account to follow free-agency news
After not using social media for nearly a year, JJ Redick made a secret return to Twitter this summer.
The veteran shooting guard confessed during the latest episode of "The JJ Redick Podcast" that he created a burner account to keep up with the NBA's free-agency frenzy.
"I have something to admit," Redick said. "June 29, I was talking with my buddy Adam Glessner, who works for the Spurs - we go back to my second year in the NBA when he worked for the Magic - and he was like, 'Yo, how are you going to get notifications? Like, how are you going to be up to date on free agency?' So, I was like, 'I think I should just create a burner account.'
"So, I used some random Gmail account that I don't really use, that I think I used to have a Spotify account. I can't remember why I used it, but anyways, used a Gmail account and set up just an egg (avatar) and I followed five people ... (Adrian Wojnarowski), Chris Haynes, Ramona (Shelburne), Shams (Charania) - the news breakers."
Redick deleted all of his social media accounts - including a private Instagram account that only his family and friends knew about - in August 2018.
"It's a dark place," he told Tom Haberstroh for Bleacher Report in October. "It's not a healthy place. It's not real."
As for his burner account, Redick said he has since deactivated it.
