While the NBA's progress in hiring women for coaching roles and front-office jobs has exceeded that of other major professional sports, there are still roadblocks. One of those appears to be generalist perceptions and tired old attitudes.

In an interview with SB Nation's Tim Struby, one anonymous NBA coach suggested that players would want to have sex with an attractive female coach.

"You can't have a hot woman in the NBA," the coach was quoted as saying. "Guys will be trying to f--k her every day."

While numerous women coach men's basketball teams at the high school and even college level, there are only four full-time female assistant coaches in the NBA. One of them, the San Antonio Spurs' Becky Hammon, has been frequently rumored as a potential head coaching candidate.

Still, the anonymous coach said a patriarchal attitude still exists in many quarters.

"By and large the NBA is an incredibly sexist environment," he said. "I listen to players talk about women. I have a daughter and it's sometimes disturbing. But it's nothing new. It hasn't gotten worse over the years. In our society there are men uncomfortable working under women, and a handful of our players would have a problem with it."
