Report: Sage Northcutt signing with PFL after ONE Championship split
Sage Northcutt is signing a contract with the PFL following his release from ONE Championship in October, sources told MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn.
Northcutt (12-3) departed ONE Championship after five years with the promotion, but he fought just twice during his tenure. The 28-year-old won his last match via submission over Ahmed Mujtaba in May 2023 following a four-year layoff.
The welterweight contender sustained significant facial injuries in a knockout loss to Cosmo Alexandre in his 2019 ONE debut. Northcutt also dealt with the lingering effects of COVID-19, which led to his absence from competition before his fight with Mujtaba.
Northcutt pulled out of a scheduled bout in January against Shinya Aoki on the day of the fight due to his coaches being unable to corner him for the matchup. He previously stated he'd prefer to be more active than he was during his ONE tenure.
It's unclear if Northcutt will compete in the PFL's upcoming 2025 season or the promotion's Super Fight series. The Texas native is expected to continue fighting at welterweight.
"Super" began his career as a rising MMA prospect with the UFC as a 19-year-old in 2015. He competed in eight fights under the promotion and compiled a 6-2 record before leaving to join ONE Championship in 2019.
