Report: Rangers, McCutchen agree to minor-league deal
The Texas Rangers agreed to a minor-league deal with five-time All-Star Andrew McCutchen, sources told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
McCutchen will likely compete with Mark Canha this spring for a roster spot once he reportedly passes his physical. The two veterans both hit from the right side, and one of them could form a platoon at designated hitter with the left-handed hitting Joc Pederson.
McCutchen spent the past three seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 39-year-old slashed .239/.333/.367 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in 135 games last campaign.
The 2013 NL MVP owns a career .271/.365/.457 slash line and continues to hit left-handed pitching at a solid clip, posting a .743 OPS against southpaws in 2025.
McCutchen spent most of last year as a DH but appeared in seven games as an outfielder.
The veteran was also connected to the Atlanta Braves as a potential replacement for the suspended Jurickson Profar, according to Grant.
