Arizona Diamondbacks star outfielder Corbin Carroll will undergo surgery Wednesday after breaking the hamate bone in his right hand, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Carroll won't suit up for the United States during the World Baseball Classic in March, and his status for Opening Day is uncertain, according to Passan.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury during batting practice Tuesday, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.

Last season, Carroll hit 31 homers and an MLB-best 17 triples to go along with 84 RBIs, 32 stolen bases, and an .883 OPS in 143 games en route to finishing sixth in NL MVP voting.

The 2023 NL Rookie of the Year also accrued a career-high 6.5 fWAR.
