The Colorado Rockies hired Josh Byrnes as their new general manager, the team announced Wednesday.

Byrnes is a former GM of the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres and most recently served as vice president of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He'll report to Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta, who was appointed to the role in November.

Byrnes worked with Colorado as an assistant general manager from 2000-02. He's won four World Series as an executive: one with the Boston Red Sox (2004) and three with the Dodgers (2020, 2024, 2025).

"I'm incredibly excited to be able to bring Josh to our group," DePodesta said in a statement. "Few executives in baseball share his combination of intellectual curiosity, breadth of experience, and on-field successes."

The Rockies fired GM Bill Schmidt in October after a dreadful 43-119 season. Their 43 wins were the second fewest in a campaign since MLB adopted a 162-game schedule in 1961.

The club's minus-424 run differential was the worst of the modern era (1901 onward).

Colorado has finished last in the NL West in four consecutive seasons and hasn't reached the playoffs since 2018.
