San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman received a one-game suspension for his role in Tuesday's benches-clearing altercation with the Colorado Rockies, MLB announced Wednesday.

Chapman was also fined an undisclosed amount. The 32-year-old is appealing his punishment.

Chapman's teammates Willy Adames and Rafael Devers were fined as well. Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland was the only Rockies player given a fine.

Devers sparked the brawl by admiring a long home run before getting into a heated verbal exchange with Freeland, who said postgame that Chapman, Adames, and Devers shoved the pitcher.

Freeland called Devers' reaction to the homer "pure disrespect."

Meanwhile, Giants ace Logan Webb said he's surprised Freeland hasn't been involved in a tussle before because he "runs his mouth a lot."

The Giants and Rockies conclude their three-game series Wednesday.
