D-Backs trade Suárez back to Mariners
Eugenio Suárez is heading back to Seattle.
The Mariners landed the All-Star third baseman in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, they confirmed Thursday. Seattle sent first base prospect Tyler Locklear, along with right-handed pitching prospects Hunter Cranton and Juan Burgos, to Arizona in return.
Eugenio Suárez made it onto the team charter back to Seattle last night, as @shannondrayer noted, and he is expected to be in the lineup tonight as the Mariners begin a series against the Rangers.

Suárez played for the Mariners from 2022-23 before being traded to Arizona for Carlos Vargas and Seby Zavala.
He returns to T-Mobile Park as one of the most feared sluggers in all of baseball. The 34-year-old is hitting .248/.320/.576 with 36 homers and 87 RBIs through his first 106 games this season and recorded the 19th four-homer game in MLB history in April.
Suárez is tied with his new teammate Cal Raleigh for the MLB RBI lead. Additionally, his 36 homers are now the most ever by a player prior to a midseason trade, surpassing the mark set by Mark McGwire in 1997, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.
Suárez injects some much-needed power into a Mariners lineup that's been searching for some help behind Raleigh and Randy Arozarena. Seattle also had a glaring hole at third base that's now shored up.
"Super excited. It's a great move. Very, very excited for it," Raleigh said after the Mariners' loss to the Athletics, according to Adam Jude and Tim Booth of the Seattle Times. "Obviously, we know how great a guy (he) is, how great he's playing this year. Great, great add."
This is the second trade Seattle and Arizona have made in July following the Mariners' acquisition of first baseman Josh Naylor. Both Suárez and Naylor are pending free agents.
All three players headed to Arizona were ranked among the Mariners' top 30 prospects by MLB.com before the trade.
Locklear is ranked as the No. 8 first base prospect. The 24-year-old made his big-league debut last season, hitting two homers in 16 MLB games. He's spent all of 2025 at Triple-A Tacoma, where he's hitting .316/.401/.542 with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs over 434 plate appearances.
Cranton, 24, was Seattle's third-round pick out of Kansas in 2024. The reliever owns a 1.96 ERA with 28 strikeouts and seven walks over 19 professional appearances across three minor-league levels. He missed the first three months of this season after being hit in the head by a line drive during spring training.
Burgos made his major-league debut earlier this year after starting his season at Double-A. The 25-year-old owns a 0.87 ERA and 0.74 WHIP with 31 strikeouts and nine walks over 31 total minor-league innings split between Double-A and Triple-A. He made four appearances for Seattle.
The Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, and Detroit Tigers were among the other contenders said to be chasing Suárez. He also apparently drew interest from the Boston Red Sox, who hoped to move Suárez across the diamond to first base, sources told Ken Rosenthal and Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.
