Skenes to play for Team USA in 2026 World Baseball Classic
Team USA's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic just got another big addition.
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes announced Tuesday that he'll pitch for the United States during next year's event.
"If I ever get the chance to do this, I'm never saying no," Skenes said on "MLB Central" after the announcement.
The California native joins captain Aaron Judge on what's expected to be a deep and talented squad, led by manager Mark DeRosa.
Skenes is a three-time alumnus of USA Baseball, having played for them before turning professional.

Skenes has become one of the most popular players in Major League Baseball since debuting last season.
The former first overall pick won NL Rookie of the Year and finished third in Cy Young voting during his debut campaign, which included a 1.96 ERA and 11.5 K/9 for the Pirates.
He's continued to pitch well in 2025, authoring a 2.63 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 54 2/3 innings.
