Orioles' Elias 'very confident' in Hyde despite tough start

Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias isn't considering a managerial change despite the club's disappointing start to the season.

Elias said Friday that he's "very confident" in manager Brandon Hyde and the club turning things around, according to MASN's Roch Kubatko.

The Orioles enter play Friday with a 12-18 record and in the basement of the American League East. They are coming off a series victory at home over the New York Yankees.

"When we're experiencing failure, it's very important in that job - and my job too - to be consistent with your approach. And he's doing that," Elias said of Hyde, per The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka.

Baltimore currently owns the AL's worst run differential of minus-49. It has permitted the third most runs in the league (169) ahead of only the Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies.

The Orioles won 192 games over the past two campaigns, making the postseason both years. However, they failed to win a playoff game, going 0-5 in the process.

Hyde is in his seventh season as the Orioles' manager. The 51-year-old won AL Manager of the Year in 2023 and owns a 418-482 record.
