Red Sox reinstate Bello ahead of 1st start of 2025
The Boston Red Sox starting rotation will get a boost ahead of Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners.
Right-hander Brayan Bello was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will start against the Mariners, the team announced.
Bello hasn't pitched during the regular season due to a shoulder strain.
The 25-year-old, who also didn't appear in a spring training contest, made four rehab starts in the minors ahead of Tuesday. He posted a 7.07 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and 13.5 K/9 in those outings.
Bello enters 2025 with a career ERA of 4.42 and an FIP of 1.42.
Boston's rotation, which is without Kutter Crawford, Richard Fitts, Lucas Giolito, Chris Murphy, and Patrick Sandoval, ranks 10th in the majors in ERA, 11th in FIP, and 16th in K/9.
The Red Sox optioned right-hander Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.
