Report: Cubs acquire Pomeranz from Mariners
The Chicago Cubs are acquiring veteran reliever Drew Pomeranz from the Seattle Mariners, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
It's unknown what the Mariners are receiving in exchange for Pomeranz.
Seattle signed Pomeranz to a minor-league contract just ahead of Opening Day.
The 36-year-old's deal contained an upward mobility clause, requiring the Mariners to make him available to all other teams. If a club showed interest in promoting Pomeranz, Seattle was obligated to either recall him or work out a trade, Rosenthal reports.
Pomeranz hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021, when he posted a 1.75 ERA in 27 outings with the San Diego Padres. He's familiar with Cubs manager Craig Counsell, having spent part of the 2019 season with the Milwaukee Brewers while Counsell was the skipper.
