San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez was carted off the field Sunday after colliding with Houston Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón.

Dubón was trying to cover first base on Arraez's bunt attempt.

The Padres said Arraez was transported to a hospital for further evaluation but is stable, conscious, responsive, and able to move his extremities.

Arraez eventually returned to San Diego's clubhouse, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The team said the three-time batting champion will stay in Houston on Sunday night and could join the club in Detroit on Monday if he's feeling OK.

"Best-case scenario with Luis," Padres manager Mike Shildt said postgame, according to 97.3 The Fan. "Obviously, very scary, but we think he's out of the woods for the most part. ... The initial testing is very favorable. No fractures of any sort."

Meanwhile, Dubón said it was impossible to get out of Arraez's way based on positioning.

"You never want to harm anyone else. He has family. He has kids. I have a kid now. It sucks. That's the worst part of it," Dubón said postgame, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic.

Arraez has three homers with seven RBIs and a .755 OPS over 22 games this season.
