Cubs' Steele to undergo season-ending elbow surgery
Chicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele will undergo season-ending surgery to repair his left elbow, Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced Sunday, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.
Steele's procedure is going to be reconstructive, but it's not yet clear if it will be full Tommy John or primary repair, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.
The 2023 All-Star was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with what the Cubs called elbow tendonitis at the time.
However, the team said Friday that Steele was seeking other opinions because he's already dealt with the same injury three times.
The 29-year-old owns a 4.76 ERA with 1.15 WHIP and 21 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings (four starts) this season. He's authored a 3.30 ERA with 9.2 K/9 across five years with Chicago.
