The Chicago Cubs placed left-hander Justin Steele on the 15-day injured list with left elbow tendonitis, the team announced Wednesday.
The move comes after Chicago's ace pitched seven scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers on Monday. Steele struck out a season-high eight hitters in the 7-0 win.
Steele leads the majors with four starts and 22 2/3 innings pitched this season. He also ranks first in wins, batters faced, and hits allowed.
The first-place Cubs recalled right-hander Ethan Roberts from Triple-A to fill Steele's spot on the active roster.
Roberts hasn't allowed a run in three minor-league games this season and has 30 big-league appearances under his belt.
