D-Backs sign Marte to 6-year extension worth reported $116.5M
The Arizona Diamondbacks and All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte agreed to a six-year contract extension, the club announced Wednesday.
The new deal will pay Marte $116.5 million, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.
The agreement reportedly gives Marte $64 million in new money.
Marte was already under contract through 2028, but the new deal kicks in this season and includes a player option for 2031 worth $11.5 million, sources told ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
The 31-year-old could earn up to $149.5 million with escalators and will receive a five-team no-trade clause.
"You're looking at one of the best players in the entire league," D-Backs general manager Mike Hazen said, per MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. "So our ability to have one of the best players in the entire league playing on our team for a long period of time is a goal of mine."
Marte signed a five-year, $76-million contract extension in March 2022. He was set to make $19.6 million this season, $16.6 million next year, and $14.6 million in 2027. The deal also had a club option worth $13 million for the 2028 campaign.
Marte has blossomed into one of baseball's best second basemen over nine seasons with the Diamondbacks. He put together the best campaign of his career in 2024, finishing third in NL MVP voting after setting new career highs in home runs (36) and RBIs (95) across 136 appearances.
Marte is slashing .273/.385/.364 with two doubles and four walks in 22 at-bats this season.
