The Kansas City Royals and general manager J.J. Picollo agreed to a contract extension through the 2030 season with a club option for 2031, the club announced Monday.

Royals chairman John Sherman also announced that the club exercised its option on manager Matt Quatraro's contract, per MLB.com's Anne Rogers. Quatraro is now under contract through the 2026 campaign.

"This game is about a lot of things, but leadership is incredibly important," Sherman said, according to Rogers. "I've got great confidence in those two guys. I love the way they work together. You got to have the right people, but stability in leadership is really important, too."

Picollo assumed the role of GM after longtime Royals executive Dayton Moore was fired in September 2022. He helped orchestrate a 30-win turnaround, with Kansas City improving to 86-76 in 2024 after struggling to a 56-106 record the season before. The Royals made the postseason for the first time in nine years in 2024.

Quatraro is entering his third season at the helm in Kansas City. He owns a 142-182 record and helped the Royals sweep the Baltimore Orioles in the 2024 AL wild-card series.
