The Chicago Cubs and free-agent infielder Jon Berti agreed to a one-year, $2-million contract, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Berti's pact reportedly includes $1.3 million in performance incentives.

The 35-year-old slashed .273/.342/.318 with one homer and six RBIs over 25 games with the New York Yankees last season. However, he recorded a combined 57 stolen bases between 2022-23, including an MLB-best 41 steals two years ago with the Miami Marlins.

Berti's projected to be used as bench player with the Cubs due to his speed and defensive versatility. The seven-year veteran has manned third base, second base, shortstop, and played in the outfield during his career.
