Report: Arenado open to waiving NTC for more teams than just Red Sox

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is open to waiving his no-trade clause for more clubs than just the Boston Red Sox, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Arenado has changed his stance over the last 24 hours, according to Morosi.

The Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers are good fits for Arenado, notes Morosi. Seattle is currently projected to start the 2025 season with Dylan Moore at third, while the Tigers have top prospect Jace Jung pegged to man the hot corner. However, Arenado is reportedly willing to play first base if he's moved to another team.

The Red Sox are reportedly one of Arenado's preferred destinations if he's dealt by the Cardinals. The eight-time All-Star blocked a trade to the Houston Astros in December.

Arenado is still owed $52 million over three years after inking an eight-year, $260-million contract with the Colorado Rockies in 2019.

The 33-year-old is coming off the worst offensive season of his 12-year career since his 2013 rookie campaign. He hit 16 homers with 71 RBIs and a .719 OPS over 152 games. However, the 10-time Gold Glover's defense at third was still stellar, finishing in the 95th percentile in Baseball Savant's outs above average.
