Report: Red Sox, Crochet have discussed extension
The Boston Red Sox are wasting no time trying to keep Garrett Crochet at Fenway Park for the long haul.
Boston has had some discussions with the newly acquired left-hander about a contract extension, a source told MassLive's Chris Cotillo. It's unclear how advanced the discussions might be.
The Red Sox landed Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in a blockbuster trade for four prospects during the winter meetings. He was made available by Chicago after authoring a breakout 2024 season, his first as a full-time starter. The 25-year-old put up a 3.58 ERA, 2.69 FIP, and 1.07 WHIP across 32 starts for the White Sox, while his 209 strikeouts ranked fourth in the American League.
Crochet is entering his second year of arbitration and is projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn $2.9 million in 2025. He and the Red Sox have until 1 p.m. ET Thursday to agree to a contract for 2025 or exchange figures ahead of an arbitration hearing next month.
The Red Sox have made upgrading their pitching staff a priority this offseason. In addition to trading for Crochet, the team also signed former All-Star right-hander Walker Buehler and veteran closer Aroldis Chapman.
