The San Francisco Giants placed left-handed relievers Taylor Rogers and Tyler Matzek and second baseman Thairo Estrada on waivers, sources told Ken Rosenthal and Grant Brisbee of The Athletic.

Estrada was reportedly placed on irrevocable waivers.

Any team who places, and wins, a claim on either player would be responsible for the remainder of their salaries in 2024. They're all eligible to continue playing for San Francisco until or if they are claimed.

Rogers, 33, is enjoying a solid campaign at the back of the Giants' bullpen. The southpaw owns a 2.45 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 59 strikeouts and only six homers allowed in 51 1/3 innings. He's been more successful against opposite-handed hitters this season, holding right-handed batters to a .669 OPS compared to .722 versus lefties.

Whoever claims Rogers would gain his services for both the stretch run of this season and all of 2025. The one-time All-Star is in the second season of a three-year, $33-million deal and will draw a $12-million salary next year. He's owed around $2.15 million over the balance of 2024.

Estrada, meanwhile, owns a .216/.246/.345 slash line with nine homers and 46 RBIs over 94 games this season. The 28-year-old was an important part of San Francisco's lineup over the last few years but has seen his playing time decrease over the course of 2024 amid ongoing struggles.

Estrada is owed around $850,000 down the stretch of this year and has another two seasons of arbitration eligibility remaining.

Matzek was acquired from Atlanta at the trade deadline for outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler. The 33-year-old is on the 60-day injured list but is in the midst of a rehab assignment at Triple-A and is expected back soon. He's earning $1.9 million this year and comes with a $5.5-million club option for 2025.

The Giants entered Tuesday sitting one game above .500 and 5.5 games back of the final NL wild-card spot.
