The Boston Red Sox placed right-handers Luis García and Lucas Sims on the injured list, the team announced Tuesday.

García heads to the IL with right elbow inflammation, while Sims was diagnosed with a right lat strain. The pair joins James Paxton on the IL. All three hurlers were acquired by the Red Sox before the deadline.

Neither García nor Sims has panned out since being added to Boston's bullpen.

García owns a 10.32 ERA and 6.08 FIP in 11 appearances, while Sims' ERA with the Red Sox is 8.10 and his FIP is 6.47.

The two relievers were acquired for five prospects, with four minor-leaguers heading to the Los Angeles Angels for García.

The Red Sox selected the contract of left-hander Rich Hill from Triple-A, recalled pitchers Greg Weissert and Josh Winckowski, and designated right-hander Brad Keller for assignment in corresponding moves.
