Cardinals release Brandon Crawford

The St. Louis Cardinals released veteran shortstop Brandon Crawford, the club announced Tuesday.

The move could mean the end of Crawford's 14-year career. The 37-year-old has one homer with a .544 OPS over 28 games this season after slashing .194/.273/.314 with seven long balls over 93 contests with the San Francisco Giants in 2023.

The three-time All-Star joined St. Louis in the offseason following 13 campaigns with the Giants. He won two World Series titles, four Gold Gloves, and a Silver Slugger Award with San Francisco.

St. Louis also optioned outfielder Jordan Walker to Triple-A, reinstated infielder Matt Carpenter, and recalled first baseman Luken Baker in a roster shuffle.
