Jays manager rips cold bats: Can't let Corbin off the hook
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider expressed frustration about his team's approach versus Washington Nationals starter Patrick Corbin on Friday night.
"You can't let guys off the hook, whether it's (Patrick) Corbin or f-----g Babe Ruth. It doesn't matter. Cy Young, it doesn't matter," Schneider said postgame, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. "You have to keep grinding. That's what we'll address going forward."
Corbin entered the game with a 6.82 ERA and 1.90 WHIP across six starts. The Jays scored three runs against him in the second inning but put up zeroes afterward. Washington went on to win 9-3.
"Guys know that we're grinding right now. We're pressing a little bit," Schneider said. "Whether it’s the lineup (construction) or just performance, they’ve got to get it done."
Corbin pitched six innings of three-run ball to record a quality start.
The Blue Jays have consistently struggled to score this season. They entered Friday's contest having recorded more games of five or fewer runs than any other team in MLB. Overall, Toronto was averaging just 3.5 runs per game.
The Jays will continue their three-game series Saturday afternoon in Washington. Kevin Gausman will face off against Jake Irvin.
