Trout wants Angels to add players: 'I'm in their ear every day'

Mike Trout is committed to winning with the Los Angeles Angels - and he wants the club's front office to help him do it.

His ask is simple: Sign one of the remaining big-ticket free agents. "I'm in their ear every day," Trout told the New York Post's Jon Heyman. "I don't know what's going on with the market right now. It's pretty crazy."

Trout has a lot on his shoulders this campaign. Shohei Ohtani's departure left him as the focal point of the team, which is expected to start four players under the age of 26 and is projected to win 73 games by PECOTA.

Despite the bleak outlook, Trout said the Angels have "a lot of confidence," but he'd still like to see them make additions before the regular season.

"There's guys out there who hit 30 home runs," Trout said.

Of the remaining free agents, the Angels have been connected to slugger J.D. Martinez, who hit 33 homers last season, as well as reigning NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell. Trout specifically mentioned outfielder Tommy Pham as a player he thinks could help the Angels, according to Heyman.

Trout, who was mentioned in offseason trade rumors before Angels GM Perry Minasian ruled out the possibility last December, posted an .858 OPS with 18 homers during an injury-plagued 2023 campaign.
