Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom and owner John Henry heard boos and sarcastic remarks from displeased fans to start the team's Winter Weekend event Friday.

Bloom heard it from the spectators during an underwhelming offseason that's seen the Red Sox lose longtime star Xander Bogaerts following a last-place finish in the AL East in 2022.

"I'm from Philly. I get it," Bloom said when asked about the response, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. The executive added that passionate fans help the team when it's contending.

Meanwhile, Henry was booed when he said high ticket prices are necessary to maintain a large payroll.

The 73-year-old acknowledged that the club's performance didn't live up to expectations last season.

"I think it's important to say that over the years, we've given everything that we can give to this franchise. ... We live and die every game," Henry said, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. "Look, I know last year was disappointing. We're going to have disappointing years."

The Red Sox aren't projected to contend in 2023 in a division that also features the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays - all of whom made the postseason last year - and the promising Baltimore Orioles.
