Report: Yankees interested in Twins' Kepler
The New York Yankees are among multiple teams with interest in Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
New York has had eyes on Kepler for some time, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, although a deal is not thought to be close.
Kepler, who plays both right and center field, is hitting .214/.301/.448 with 14 home runs, 40 RBIs, and eight stolen bases this season. He's fared much better against right-handed pitching - .806 OPS versus right-handers, compared to .601 against lefties - and might be better deployed in a platoon role.
The 28-year-old German is owed $22.75 million in guaranteed money through 2023. His deal contains a club option in 2024.
New York appears ready to buy at the deadline with hopes of staying in the wild-card race. The Bronx Bombers have also reportedly shown interest in Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story.
