Red Sox allow franchise-record 8 HRs in blowout loss to Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox surrendered a franchise-record eight home runs in an 18-4 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday at Fenway Park.

Toronto was powered by homers from Teoscar Hernandez (two), Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio, Marcus Semien, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Rowdy Tellez.

"It's unbelievable," Hernandez said postgame, according to Ken Powtak of The Associated Press. "I'm hoping it can be like that every day so we can have fun and laugh the whole game."

Guerrero's round-tripper was his MLB-leading 21st of the season. He's homered in three straight contests to start the four-game series.

Prior to Sunday's game, a road team went deep seven times on two occasions against the Red Sox. The record was shared by the 1967 Baltimore Orioles and 1961 New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays also collected a season-high 20 hits a day after a five-homer performance.

The two clubs finish off their series Monday. Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will get the ball for the Boston, while rookie Alek Manoah toes the rubber for the Blue Jays.
