New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is the talk of Queens thanks to a historic rookie season.

In a debut campaign filled with highlights - including setting the Mets' single-season record for home runs with his 42nd round-tripper Tuesday - the 24-year-old has made a fan out of a New York comedy legend.

"It was crazy, Jerry Seinfeld comes to a game and says, 'Hey Pete, nice to meet you, I'm a big fan,'" Alonso said, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. "I'm like, 'What? Jerry Seinfeld is a fan of mine? Get out of here.'"

It was a big moment for a player who considered the TV show "Seinfeld" a mainstay growing up.

"My parents both watched 'Seinfeld' a ton. My dad made sure I watched 'Seinfeld,'" said the All-Star. "It seems like every parent that raised their kid in the '90s made their kid watch 'Seinfeld' at some point or another.

"So, for him to tell me that he's a huge fan? Shut up."

The favorite to take home this year's National League Rookie of the Year Award, Alonso enters Wednesday's action with a .265/.367/.596 slash line with 42 homers and 101 RBIs.
